about

"This album shows Unbard Gates' growth in his abilities as a musician and a number of breakthroughs with these songs. You can hear the different influences from the Far East, jazz, pop and electronic music plus an accent of industrial sound through the album. The album starts off with a track that will pull you in instantly with a guitar hook that will make it impossible not to move your feet. You continue to get swept along through tracks with jazz infused sounds, layered with beats that require several listens in order to catch all of the details. An array of emotions are evoked as each song plays, generating feelings of joy, comfort, stress, loathing, relief, rebirth and back to happiness. In the past this artist has taken us on some otherworldly travels with his work, but this album keeps us grounded in true musical art.” - Mark McNabb
"C’mon Now" starts off things with an Indian influence, a great guitar hook, motivated words of “C’mon Now” and will move you onto the dance floor. "Moments Before The Storm" features seaside, gulls, waves crashing, and a mellow groove that slowly changes. "Strolling Along The Psychotropic River" has a great beat that leads you on a different type of trip. "Objects In The Mirror" features light keyboard sounds with heavy bass and additional keyboards creeping in and taking over. "Layin’ It Down" includes rhythmic beats that are reflective but different from the previous track, “Strolling Along The Psychotrophic River”. The beats blend into great guitar playing, horn sounds, and eventually a talk box sound that melts back into elegant horns and keyboard. "Along The Nile" begins with sounds of frogs and crickets as a gentle drum beat creates a soothing Zen moment of travel and getting away. "Gaia’s Lament" has a strong, repetitious electronic beat driving through most of the track. It features keyboard plucking followed by a loathsome violin and higher pitched sounds. Without realizing it, the industrial sounds may up your stress level, but relief sets in when the female chorus enters toward the end. Finally, in "Mourning Light" a female chorus blends in with nicely layered synth horns and keyboards. Always hoping for a rebirth, a new beginning... except that the word “mourning”points to a different direction. The female voices might be the Sirens that sail me into the rocks.

After retiring, he decided to let out the creative side that had been suppressed during his working life and expand his artistic outlets focusing on music (any instrument) & handcrafted items (Maddie's Makings on FaceBook). ... more
